The High Holy Days

If you grew up in a Christian home, you may have never heard of the High Holy days. The issue with that is the fact that understanding the holidays and the Biblical feasts is crucial in understanding Yeshua (Jesus) and God’s plan for all believers. The feasts are more than just celebrations; they are pictures. They are images of what is to come and what has passed. They are reminders of God’s faithfulness, truth and love. Let me show you what I mean.

We just recently celebrated Rosh HaShana. This is the Jewish civil new year. However, the Biblical feast for this is known as Yom Teruah or the Feasts of Trumpets. This feast is about awakening. It is about the remembrance of life and joy God desires us to have. Yom Teruah is also preparation for Yom Kippur, the day of Atonement. Yom Teruah is a call to repentance.

Leviticus 23:24-25 says:

Speak to the children of Israel saying, ‘In the seventh month on the first day of the month, you shall have a Sabbath rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work on it and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord.

This is not the only feast that is set as a memorial, all the feasts are meant to remind us of something. They are all designed to remind us of some characteristic of God. The feast of tabernacles reminds of God’s continuous presence. Passover reminds us of God’s faithfulness.

If you have never celebrated the Biblical feasts before, I would encourage you to do so. Find friends and family to celebrate with. The feasts are about being with God, family and friends. So, enjoy learning and of course enjoy celebrating the good things Yeshua, our Messiah has given to us.
